There are two camps of people in my life: those who write and those who say they wish they knew how.
I believe everyone has this skill lying within them, and, in the age of AI, it’s something worth tapping into—and holding onto—for the rest of your life. Writing is an art and one of the most beautiful forms of human expression. Your words are unique, and while they can be influenced by (and inspire!) others, they are 100% yours. You created them. You own them. And you can change lives, including your own, with them.
Pretty powerful, right?
This is why I’m starting a new content series called “How to Write”—an 8-part masterclass on how to write for yourself or major publications. Thanks to my 16-year career in national print magazines and digital media, I’m an expert in crafting an idea, getting it down on paper, editing it to perfection, and sharing it with the world. I’ve helped hundreds of writers and editors improve their skills, and now, I’m sharing my best tips with you.
For many of you, this series will make you better at your job, whether you’re writing emails, explaining problems, pitching clients, summarizing performance, or looking to rack up bylines as a freelancer.
For others, it may unlock a hidden desire that you can explore this summer. Too often, I hear, “I think I could write a book” from people who haven’t dared to follow through. Well, I’ve been known to push a few over that line—and they’ve gone on to write hit novels and self-help guides, or climb the ranks of popular magazines.
Today, it’s your turn.
In Fire Edits’ How to Write series, you’ll learn:
What makes a story worth telling
Nailing the perfect angle, title, and intro
The 7 golden rules for writing well
Reporting & quoting like a pro
The importance of owning your POV
How to edit yourself (Ooh, the tough stuff!)
Writing for digital vs. print
Beating writer’s block & finding endless inspo
In each lesson, you’ll receive:
The exact steps to improve your skills
Real-life examples from me and other professional writers
A prompt to get you writing right away
Real-time Q&A in our subscriber Chat
Invites to share your writing samples
“Hot Tip” cheat sheets, downloads, bonus audio, videos, and more
By the end of this masterclass, you’ll walk away with a series of work that you can cherish alone or pitch to the right outlet (don’t worry, my “How to Pitch” special will follow).
Learning how to write can be therapeutic, biographical, educational, moneymaking, or even award-winning. That’s what makes it so magical… it can be anything you want it to be.
So, if you’ve ever wanted to find the right words to capture what you’re feeling, preserve memories exactly as they happened, move or inspire others with your story, or see your name in print, I hope you’ll join me in this series!
If you’re already a paying Fire Edits subscriber, you’re automatically enrolled in this masterclass. If not, sign up now for $5 a month:
